Coding Training

Evaluation and Management (E & M) Coding Audits via Electronic Health Records:
To evaluate the accuracy of medical encounter coding for all Network Centers utilizing an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for proper billing & reimbursement. The purpose of the audits is:
  • To compare provider documentation with the E & M Visit Code assigned to an encounter, using an audit tool based on the CMS 1997 E & M Coding Guidelines
  • To evaluate the ICD-9 Codes assigned to an encounter through the assessment portion of the note and to ensure that all procedures (CPT) have a proper ICD-9 code linked to them
  • Report findings of coding patterns per provider as well as  Center aggregate totals
  • Provide education on areas of documentation to be included in the EMR for complete documentation & accurate coding.
